Clear answers before you book
This page explains how consultations and acupuncture work in my practice, what you can expect, and what I expect from you in return. I treat carefully, track response, and adjust based on findings. This is a cooperative process, not a once-off event.
Frequently asked questions
If you do not see your question below, contact me and ask. I prefer clarity upfront because it protects your time, your money, and your expectations.
How do I know if your practice is a good fit for me?
My practice is a good fit if you want a structured clinical approach, you are willing to attend follow-up sessions when needed, and you are willing to cooperate with the process between visits. It is not a good fit if you want a once-off treatment, you want to be “fixed” without participation, or you expect guaranteed outcomes.
What conditions do you treat?
I focus on complex, chronic, and functionally disruptive conditions. These include chronic pain, metabolic dysfunction, fatigue syndromes, hormonal imbalance, digestive disorders, neurological complaints, autoimmune presentations, and stress-related conditions.
Treatment is based on pattern differentiation, not diagnostic labels alone. The name of the condition is less important than the underlying mechanism.
Do you offer once-off treatments?
This practice is not suited for people seeking a once-off treatment. If you want a single visit, a quick fix, or a miracle result, you are likely to be disappointed. I work best with patients who want a clinical plan and are willing to follow it.
What do you expect from me as a patient?
I expect cooperation and professionalism.
Arrive on time. If you need to cancel or reschedule, do so timeously. Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you, and late cancellations disrupt the structure of the practice.
Come prepared. Communicate honestly. Give accurate feedback after each visit, even if the change seems small. Your choices between visits matter.
Questions are expected, and I will answer them clearly.
What happens in the first consultation?
I take a structured history and assess relevant systems. I will ALWAYS check your tongue and pulse, because these are central diagnostic methods in my practice. I then explain my clinical impression and outline a plan. If acupuncture is appropriate, I treat in the same visit unless there is a clear reason to delay.
What should I bring to help you treat me properly?
Bring a list of your medications and supplements (including dosages and timing), relevant diagnoses, and any recent blood tests or specialist reports you have. If you have imaging, bring the written report. Good information improves accuracy and shortens trial-and-error.
How do you decide which points to use?
I choose points based on your history, your tongue and pulse findings, your current signs and symptoms, and the pattern that best explains your presentation. I then track your response and refine the strategy over subsequent sessions. Responses are individual, and I treat accordingly.
Do you combine acupuncture and herbal medicine?
Yes. Where appropriate, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are combined. Acupuncture regulates movement and function. Herbs consolidate and deepen the therapeutic effect between sessions.
Not every patient requires both. The treatment strategy is determined by presentation and tolerance.
Can I continue my medication while receiving treatment?
Yes. Do not stop prescribed medication because you are seeing me. Any medication changes must be handled by the prescribing clinician. Tell me exactly what you take, including dosages and timing, because this affects clinical decision-making.
Is acupuncture safe in your practice?
Yes. I only use sterile, disposable needles. Combined with sound clinical judgment and strict adherence to best practice, acupuncture in my clinic is completely safe.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel very little when I insert a needle. Some points can produce a brief sharp sensation, warmth, heaviness, tingling, or a dull ache. If something feels wrong, tell me immediately and I will adjust.
I am needle-shy. Can you still treat me?
Yes. Tell me upfront. I can adjust the pace, the number of needles, and the areas selected. The goal is effective treatment without turning the session into an endurance test.
Are there reasons you might not needle me on a given day?
Yes. If needling is not clinically appropriate or not safe on the day, I will change the plan. That decision can be based on acute illness, significant instability, or a safety consideration from your history and current presentation.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Dress so that I can access your neck, chest, abdomen, forearms, hands, knees, lower legs, and feet without you having to undress fully. Sleeves that roll up, pants that roll up to the knee, and footwear that is quick to remove work best.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on how long the problem has been present, how complex it is, how your body responds, and how consistently you follow the plan between visits. I do not promise a fixed number upfront. I track progress and adjust the plan based on clinical response.
Acute conditions may respond within a few treatments. Chronic conditions require structured care over time. A realistic plan is discussed after the initial consultation once pattern differentiation is complete.
How do we measure whether treatment is working?
We measure progress using what matters clinically: symptom intensity, frequency, duration, functional capacity, sleep quality, digestion, mood stability, and recovery after exertion. I also track pattern change over time, not just whether a symptom “goes away” for a day.
What if I do not feel better immediately?
Not every session produces an obvious “instant result”, especially with long-standing or complex problems. What I look for is a trend: better sleep, reduced intensity, longer gaps between flare-ups, improved function, or improved stability over time. Your feedback helps me refine your plan.
Do you work alongside medical doctors and specialists?
Yes. Integrated care is often appropriate. I routinely treat patients who are under the supervision of general practitioners, physicians, neurologists, endocrinologists, and other specialists.
Herbal prescriptions are selected with current medication in mind.
Do you treat children?
In some cases, yes, but it depends on the child’s age, temperament, the clinical problem, and whether treatment can be done safely and calmly. If you are asking about treatment for a child, contact me with the child’s age and main complaint so I can tell you if my practice is an appropriate fit.
Do you guarantee results?
No. Nobody can ethically guarantee outcomes in healthcare. What I do provide is careful assessment, safe practice, a clear plan, and ongoing refinement based on how you respond. If you want certainty or miracle claims, this is not the right clinic for you.
What if I only want you to needle the painful area and nothing else?
I treat the person, not only the painful area. Local needling can help, but it is often not enough for persistent or recurrent problems. If you want symptom-only treatment with no broader clinical plan, this practice will not meet your expectations.
